Leek carnage - anything I can do?
« on: June 09, 2009, 20:13 »
Gordon Bennett. I love the eggs from my chickens but one of them found my baby leeks in their plug tray and decided they tasted nice. She has snipped off the tops of nearly all of them.

I am gutted as I am rotten with leeks and these were actually growing quite well.  :(

Apart from chicken and leek pie, can anyone tell me if there's anything I can do to help the poor little things recover?

some people snip the top half of the leaves off when transplanting them, so as long as most of the plant is still there they may not have been too badly harmed. I would suggest feeding them and giving them tlc.

And be sure to fence off your leeks from your beeked thief.  If left to grow, the leeks will recover.
