Toms and water
« on: June 03, 2009, 16:53 »
Hi all, I have some toms in pots i my plastick green house, should i water from above? (avoiding leaves) or let them sit in water and sup it that way?

also how wet should the soil be in a grow bag in the same greenhouse/thing.

soak the ground.
if you can get a bottle and push it into the ground, then you can water directly to the roots.

not sure how wet the ground needs to be, but give them a good soaking  :)

My toms are in pots, cucumbers and courgettes also. I have the pots stood in trays so I can fill with water on warm days to stop them drying out. Its working for me

I use a legth of tube approx 1 metre long x 5cm wide (plastic pipe or anything similar) holding the tube so it touches the compost I pour water down the tube, it saves all that bending down which is great if you have a bad back like me, and it also keeps the water off the leaves, I can zip around all the plants in no time at all doing it this way and it easily pokes into the cut-out bit on grow bags so the water actually gets into the growbags rather than running off onto the greenhouse floor!
