eating my own produce for dinner..yay! :)
« on: June 11, 2009, 18:13 »
Hi everyone!

Just want to share my excitment! As a complete newbie, I didnt really expect much this year but I came back from the plot today with a basket full of strawberries, radishes, new potatoes and a bunch of flowers! yipee!!! :)
Just had the edibles for dinner and they were delicious...I am sooo chuffed. very satisfying this growing your own!
Although to be fair the strawberrys were already established and the potatoes are from 'volunteer' ones that keep sprouting up all over the place! Still taste good though!  ;)
How do you know when garlic is ready? I planted mine in early dec and it looks big n strong on top, but dont really know whether the tops wilting a little is due to wind damage or if they are ready to dig up.

Well done greendream  :D

Garlic is ready when the leaves yellow and fall over - usually July / August.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Well done Greendream! (Good nickname too!)

We had meat and five veg last night followed by Strawbs.  The meat was a bit of a disappointment!  Maybe a project for next year?!

I had cabbage from my garden last night.  There is something immensly satisfying from coming in from work, feeding the hens their snack and picking my dinner from the garden before cooking it.  You just don't get better than that.

Just tucking into  ham sandwich with my own grown lettuce. I did actually say to myself that it really does taste different!! :) Dug up a carrot last week thinking it was going to be long and thin, reality check - it was short and fat, but still tasted good  :)
