Handling chickens/perch
« on: May 29, 2009, 23:59 »
I put me new girls in their house tonite and basically left them to it, there is a perch in there for them but when i peeked in earlier they had taken to perching on the side of their nesting box, looking like the poo is going into their nest box.   Do you wait until later in the evening to lift them onto their perch to get them used to it, what is the best way to do that and will they mind, i dont want to start grabbing at them.    Theres nothing wrong is there by just leaving them to do what they want in their house or is it necessary for them to perch.   nicky

If they insist on perching on the edge of their nesting boxes then just put a sheet of newspaper over the nesting box. That way in the morning all you have to do is roll the paper up, pop it into your compost bin and bobs your uncle,   :)
Staffies are softer than you think.
