Little spraddle leg!
« on: May 31, 2009, 14:15 »
Its been 6 days since my little araucana chick hatched with 1 leg sticking out to the side!! I have had it taped up all this time but its foot now seems to be turned out?? it hops around ok and is eating and drinking ok! although it is still the smallest! I have been giving it sugared water aswell to try and give it some extra energy!
the lady that was going to buy all the araucanas said she still wants the little spraddled one but i not sure if its fair on it!!! what do you guys think? should i give it more time and see what happens when its a bit bigger??? or should I let it go??  :(

Is it able to use that leg? If the others are able to bully it around and away from food or water I would say to keep it, that way at least you won't be worrying about how it is doing.

Not really using its leg! but can stand leaning most weight on its good leg! (just hope its not in pain thats all!) can get about quite well! they arent going to their new home till they are 5 weeks! so could see how it is then!???

Well that is about the scope of my knowlege but here is a place you can post for just that type of problem.

DCT raises mainly Peafowl but has come to a great understanding of orthopedics in birds and has helped many a chick and keeper with leg problems.
