What is wrong with my peas?
« on: June 18, 2016, 09:17 »
Some of my Stokesley peas are looking at bit strange.  Some of the growing tips are blackened.  Some of the leaves look a little "papery".
I will post a picture when I can work out how to do so from my new fangled fancy phone.

It may be that the ground is too wet. If you have had hail storms it could be bruising.

Photo would be good.

Here are a couple of pictures.  Stokesley peas tend to be a paler green always so the colour of the plants doesn't worry me, but you can see the papery nature of one of the emerging flowers in the centre of the second picture.  You can see the blackened stunted growing tip of one in the centre of the first picture.   The edges of some of the leaves are browned.   Peas of a different variety in the next bed are unaffected.   The peas are from my own saved seed and were growing beautifully until this week.   I have shared seed from the same batch with others on our allotment site and their peas look lovely.  A bit baffled.

Well they seem to be recovering and are now climbing up the netting again.  I think you must have been right Salmo, heavy rain or hail is probably the cause.

I have given them a seaweed feed and hope things will be OK.

pea thrips affect flowers causing withering.
too much nitrogen will affect flower production
papering can be caused by hot weather.....far to cloudy in Lincolnshire
