Odd egg laying behaviour......
« on: May 11, 2009, 08:50 »
Over the last week I've been having some odd laying behaviour from a couple of my warrens.  I've got 6 warrens all of which have been laying since Christmas, usually daily without any problems.   But over the last week I've had one laying in the run right outside the coop - as if she can't be bothered to make it up the ramp in to the nesting box, then I've had another who has laid a couple of soft shelled eggs???  All the others are laying just fine and none of them seem under the weather at all!!!!

Any ideas on what could have upset their routine????

Have you checked your coop for spider mite? or other crawlies?

Do you know what to do about soft shelled eggs?
Do your birds have access to grit, oyster shell?

The coop had a good ole dusting down last week end and there was no sign of any crawlies, I also put a dusting of diatom down under their wood flakes and straw on clean out day.

I've got little pots of grit and oyster shell dotted around their run which they always have access to.
