Hi, I have lots of ash from bonfires and thought I could probably put it on my compost heap.  I have two heaps, one darlic and one open, should I put half on each.  There is about 20 heaped spadefuls if that helps.  The fire was from trees I have pruned, fig, elder flower, bull rushes cut down from last year and then lots of weeds?

yip it will be a fantastic addition to any compost heap,make sure it is well spread throughout the heap.

Fruit trees/bushes like it too. Sprinkle some round your raspberries, currents etc if you have any.

Wood ash (as opposed to wood charcoal-needs to be sieved ) is an excellent source of potash. I scatter mine on the potatoes as I how them up. Make a solution of 2lbs in a two gallon bucket which you can store and use weekly on your tomatoes.
Don't use it fresh. Store for about two months.
