IMO for an absolute beginner i think the 'Veg growing month by month' is great.
The second book 'Essential Allotment Guide' is, as the title says, for allotment growers, it contains much the same advice, and help with planning your site, but i think the month by month format of the first is really good for beginners.

I have them both and they are full of good advice so the choice is yours

I was a beginner too last year and I found the "Veg growing month by month" to be really helpful.
i continually refer to it and it just fits neatly in a pocket!

I'm also pretty much a beginner this year, and i'm finding Veggie Growing month by month excellent.

i agree with everyone else about veg growing month-by-month.

the most handy thing is that it tells you exactly when to do what (and also what you should be harvesting!)

I also agree about the month by month one and I'm sure when we get into our lottie I'll be refering to it a lot (month by month I would hope). However, for how much they cost I say get 'em both if you've got a lottie.
