I am the proud owner of a Howard Clifford 400 Rotovator.
I need help in setting up the timing on Jap Engine.
The machine looks great as I have repainted it and restored it over the last 12 months.
There is a small problem as it backfires but will not start.
Despite the beauty having a plaque stating that the Queen uses Howard Rotovators my request to borrow her user manual has met with complete silence.
I have had a couple of replies but am still in a bit of a fix.
The engine is a single cylinder, side valve and the fuell tank has a Model 400 sticker.
The engine number which is a bit unclear is 4/3/U5815/30
It may however be A/B/U5815/BO as it is a bit unclear.
From the replies I have had it would seem that this is a 1943 model.
Can anyone out there help me please

Hi, I suppose you have already tried it - google howard clifford rotavator, open the first title, click on jap engine chart, if you print it off you will be able to identify which engine is fitted.
If you then google jap engine handbook and search for the correct one to dowmload.
