when we use our cold frame we lay down horti fleece and then cover with horti fleece , sealingthem in with bricks around the edges, humans 7 - slus 0

Fine for small areas, but what about the other 100's of sq yards??

And I totally agree with iwantanallotment, the few you see at night is just scratching the surface.

If you think I'm going down the plots on a damp rainy night, with a torch & a pair of scissors to check 800 sq m of ground - think on!

My four courgettes are just stumps now thanks to the slimy f*****s are slug pubs effective on a raised bed do you think or should I head straight to the pellet section?

i dont care about the slugs, but are they ok to put down with regards to birds/frogs etc? is there one i can use without harming my garden friends?

I find the the following to be safe and effictive;

Use an old margarine or any small plastic container, cut a small  hole in the side level with the base,  put slug pellets in and replace the lid. Place the containers next to the plants you want to protect,  the slugs will crawl in and eat their fill.  No harm will come to animals or wild life and the pellets stay dry in wet weather.
There is no better show of antisipation than a man sowing seeds in a field.

Last year I had great success in controlling slugs by going round the garden after dark, with a torch and a pair of scissors. I found that the slugs were actually eating the remains of those that were killed. The birds also pick them up so slug pellets can be a threat to the birds.

I once shot a wood pigeon in a very cold period. It had a full crop and I thought it was full of beans, but it turned out to be snails. So they're not always enemies.

I would let the chicken out there - but chicken vs brassica has the same result as slug vs brassica, I know this as I mistakenly put some pots with caulis in down to open my gate earlier in the season.

I put pellets down last night - this morning the soil isn't a pretty sight.  My slugs & snails come from next door I can see them lining up just behind the fence ready for their nightly raids.  I did see a grass snake out there too sunning itself - should I did the bodies in ? I don't want it to eat them.
