has anyone had success with growing watercress in containers. I have been given a packet of t&m watercress seeds by a friend of mine and don't know what to do with it. thanks

This link  might help. I've only grown it in the sides of my dad's pond, very successfully, but it looks like anything's possible. Did the packet have instructions?

Yes, if it is the same type, I grow it in a large diameter plant pot but one that is not too deep. Full of good moist potting compost stood in another bowl or a deepish tray say about 2 inch deep or so that I keep full of water. Keep in greenhouse. Change the water and bottom tray from time to time as it goes green. Add water to bottom tray but not to top unless gets very dry. Sow in sucession about 3 weeks apart so you have some bowls of cress ready over a few weeks, Can also grow American land cress and greek cress in teh soil in greenhouse if you keep them moist.
Problem with growing on pond edge or in a stream is cress picks up pollutants and other nasties if present.
Of course simple land cress grows on wet flannel or other cloths on a  saucer as all school kids will have seen.
