Is a teaspoon of flubenvet to much?
« on: April 14, 2009, 16:47 »
Hi, i am just about to worm my four hens, am i right in giving them a teaspoon each of flubenvet every day for seven days?. I was going to do each hen indivdually so i know they have had the amount needed. Was going to pop it in a small amt of rice, am i doing it right?

Thanks HENrietta :)

Much too much - read the instructions - a teaspoon will probably be about 7 days worth for a couple of hens.  I mix mine (small amount version) with their food for a week in a bucket & just feed them that.  I think people who feed it individually just use a small pinch per hen!  Hopefully someone will be able to exactly how much - or check out Aunt Sally's thread.
Good luck with it, I will admit the instructions with the packet don't make it easy!

That seems too much flubenvet to me.  What formulation have you bought HENriatta ?

Look at the information on the worms article in the Pultry information section :

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=4348.0

The amounts you need to use are on there.

If you have the new 1% formulation one scoop (enclosed in the pack) of 6g will be enough for 3 hens for 7 days.  ( divide it up equally over the 7 days)

If you have the 2.5% then the same amount would treat 7-8 birds for 7 days.

Yes it is the 1% so if divide 1 and a bit scoops for the four hens, for the 7 days, am i correct in doing it daily? Will i be doing it correctly. The instructions are a little confusing!

Thanks all.

Yes thats right

It's 1 and a bit to last over the 7 days rather than 1 and a bit each day.

The amount of flubenvet is per kilo of food so that the hen eats the appropriate amount for it's weight. It's easy enough to mix into their feed and just restrict other treats until the pellets are all or nearly all gone in the afternoon. I've found this much easier than dosing each individual hen. Nic.
