Hi Woodburner

Because I like the look of them, and also they seem to be a good idea where I am as it is a bit wet!

I take it you don't like them?

Cheers

Dave

Correct :D  :nowink:

I deal with the wet by making lazy beds, and leave the timber for things that really need it.
Lazy beds get virtually no publicity because they don't involve selling anything to anyone.
Even if you want to put wood around the beds it's a good idea to dig out the paths and put the soil on the beds, before placing the frames.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Lazy beds are a type of no-dig bed. They are about 4ft wide, so that you can reach everywhere in the bed without treading on it. They can be any length you like but most people these days make them about 4 yards long, to reduce the temptation to take shortcuts over the bed to get from one side to the other.
The difference between them and standard no-dig beds, is that they are raised by digging out the paths and putting the soil on the beds. This helps with the drainage, and where the topsoil is not very deep, means you can get a decent depth of topsoil on the beds. Be careful, if you do have only a thin layer of topsoil, not to put subsoil on the beds.

If you need to know more about no dig methods in general please don't hesitate to ask. :)
