Can i plant...........
« on: April 11, 2009, 13:16 »
onions and spring onions in the next rows to my first early potato's? Really new to this growing lark but want to do it right after attacking my recently aquired lottie that had been abandoned for 5+ years.  Getting the ground dug over and got my first earlies in(sprint) and wondered about the aforemnetioned.
Also clearing the ground is hard going, soil is excellent just laden with docks and nettles, got about 8 sackfulls already and only a quarter of the way down lottie.

ANY tips greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Stu

There is no reason why you can't grow them next to each other, but leave plenty of space or the spud haulms will choke out the light and you also need the space for hilling up.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Cheers folks, i just got told off someone that you shouldn't plant them next to each other but i can't see why not.  About 12-16" away from the spuds.
Don't want to you use any chems on the weeds just gonna fight them all the way as i work it. Got a large roll of dampproof membrane that will cover and as i roll it back to weed then it'll get sorted.

Thanks
