Buying a rose
« on: April 11, 2009, 15:34 »
My Mum saw a rose on GW the other night called Auguste Gervais and fell in love with it.

As her birthday is coming up I thought I'd buy her one.

I've had a quick look online and have found them potted or bare rooted.

Should I go for one over the other and is there a recognised 'best supplier' to get a rose from?

Thanks in advance  :)

I could give up chocolate but I'm not a quitter.

I would've thought this time of year potted is your best option. I've bought from David Austin and Pete Beale in the past, and been impressed by both.

As they showed on GW at this time of year the potted ones are only ones they lifted, did'nt sell straight away so potted up so they didn't die.
Even the ones he planted on the prog had made very little root growth in the compost. :(
So IMHO you might just as well by a barerooted plant and get it in the ground PDQ.
I've always been very happy with Peter Beales Roses, but he's not the cheapest. :(

Thanks for the replies....

I'd seen in on the Peter Beales site and as you both mentioned them thought I'd order one from them.....

As it's bare rooted they stopped sending them out in March and won't be sending them out again till Nov!!!!

Back to the net to try somewhere else!!!
