Sowed 3 seeds in 3" pots. They've come up - about 4 inches tall, very sturdy, with first leaves on the end. I've got them on the coffeetable under the south-facing window. How should I grow them on until it's time to put them in the greenhouse/coldframe? Will they sprawl?

I'm growing melons but only sown them this weekend

I guess you'll just have to keep them indoors. If they are going outside it's way to early to plant them but if they are going in a warm greenhouse they would be ok

I tie mine to a split cane, and pot on into 4.5" then 6" pots (at which time they get a taller cane). They don't branch much initially, so training them up a cane seems to work until they can be put in their final positions (in my case in a cold greenhouse)

Perfect - thanks guys. Do you reckon I could grow one in the top of a full compost bin, when the time is right?
