As above just interested to know how long the ladies lay for? I guess it depends on breed and conditions kept in? Thanks for the knowledge....

As a general rule, hybrids lay more eggs in the first couple of years or so but pure breeds lay for more years.

My first 4 warren hybrid hens laid like machines for nearly 2 years, the quality of the eggs then declined and I now have one surviving Warren from the first batch at over 4 years old and she hasn't laid for about 2 years now.  She likes to sit and snooze in the sun though
I have a speckledy & a bluebelle, both still laying strong at 24 months, but allowing themselves more time off - my warrens didn't even stop to moult. 
2 pure breed Lights sussex, 18 months who took plenty of time off during the winter and tend to lay every other day.
Ask me in 2 years time how long they lay for!

Thanks for the information. I have had a few(5 eggs) so far in the first week of laying. I think its the ginger warren thats laying but hey who cares, they seem happy and my daughter and I love hunting down the eggs in the straw of the nests.
Lets hope we have a nice warm summer and they keep at it......

how long is a bit of string . any one saying they lay for a excat amount of time has no idea . each breed is diffrent and if the chickens are kept in diffrent condsions it changes and if the weather is warmer in the year that the one before. so theres just a guide line of how long it they lay for but i take it as a LOAD OF RUBISH AS I HAVE  CHICKENS LAY EVERY DAY RIGHT THOUGHT THE YEAR. so thats there thery out the window lol .
