Just another quick question

What should I put in my hen house and nesting boxes, I heard some one say that, Hay and straw caulse problems?

hi there , i use straw an wood shavings , or even flax which is another form of horse bedding although u can use almost any tpye of horse bedding as long as its not dusty . hay is not good for them at all.

i was at the wernlas collection on saturday, and was told by Shaun the owner NOT to use hay OR straw, but just to use shavings , as he has had lots of calls when people have used straw over red mite.

I use a thick layer of wood shavings/chippings (easibed for horses type stuff) in the nest boxes and a thinner layer on the floor of the coop.  When I clean out the henhouse, the dirty stuff from the floor goes in the compost, the clean stuff from the nest boxes gets spread on the floor and they have fresh in the nest box.
