Limestone chippings for my greenhouse
« on: March 16, 2009, 13:50 »
Hello all,

This might be a stupid question but I have just built a greenhouse on top of a piece of lawn. I have lined the base with very thick cardboard and now need to put some chippings down to sit my pots and growbags on.The cheapest by a mile is limestone and I wanted to know if they are ok to use without affecting the toms and peppers.

Cheers.

If the toms & peppers are going to be in pots & growbags, having the chippings on the ground shouldn't make any difference  ;)

I think I know where you are going with the "lime" stone/acid loving plants combo - if you were to later use the ground that the chippings have been on etc ... personally I still think it would make no difference, but I wouldn't argue with a 2nd opinion  :)
Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success.
Only those who dare to fail greatly can ever achieve greatly.

I also think it would not be a problem, but it might be wise to hose down the chippings as a precaution just to get rid of any limestone dust.

The floor of my greenhouse is covered in limestone chippings and I havn't had any problems.  All my toms and peppers etc were fine in their pots.

I used weed membrane rather than cardboard under them.
Cheese makes everything better.
