We have got loads of cow and horse manure (well rotted and quite crumbly, but the horse stuff(I think) has some wood shavings in it).

so can I bung some around my rasberries, blackberries, purple sprouting? or not.  Is there anything that doesn't like manure  (other than I haven't worked any into my carrot or onion bends (except the bit that hubby dug in by mistake)

I would use the manure on everything except root crops like carrots and parsnips.

As a newbie, can you enlighten me as to why the manure wouldn't be good for the root crops, please? Ta!

The manure will make the roots fork and generally turn out completely misshapen. If you do manure an area I would tend to leave it a couple of seasons after manuring before planting roots on that particular area.
