I have just read a 1947 copy of Good Poultry Keeping, in which is tells how to tie down the three month old cock bird; cut, stitch up and care for said bird after the op is completed.

My question is, Surely nowadays birds have to be anaesthetised for such procedures?

They had different ideas on animal welfare then.  :ohmy:

The war had barely finished. I doubt chickens featured on the list things to care about  :unsure:
