I am thinking that it may be a respiratory problem now as she sounds wheezy ???
She has finally sat down and is looking comfy, but has a whistle when she breaths.

I am going to keep her inside tonight to give her a bit of a chance from yet another cold night.

Thanks for all your advise yesterday, but I am afraid that my poor little hen died last night.   :( At least she died in the warmth of the house not outside in the freezing temperatures outside.

The others are looking happy enough this morning and are out playing again.  I lined the coup with newspaper, put shavings down and then bought some animal straw for them to snuggle up in to keep warm.

Oh molly hen so so sorry.  At least she died in the nice warm and, you did everything for her.  You tried your best, but sometimes nature is cruel as I have found out.  Don't beat yourself up be proud of what you did and what you've learned from this experience..... Sending hugs

Dear MollyHen, I am really sorry for you loss--It's just so sad to be so helpless in the light of their illness. You did your best for her and as you say at least she was warm inside. Hugs!
I am creating a woodland garden for my free-ranging chickens. I like the wild look but it is full of old climbing roses & clematis. I grow vegetables in raised beds in a proteced area. My other passions are food (I used to have a restaurant) antiques, social history, opera & dance.

It happens :( It's so tempting to leave them another day, instead of doing what is ultimately the kindest thing.  :(

Did you do a pm to find out what she died of? could it have been simply old age?
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Thanks to you all for all your kind words.

Didn't do a PM (not that brave ??? )  She was only about 30 weeks old, so not old age.

Hey ho.  The others don't appear to be missing her!

Hello Molly Hen,
I have just lost my Coral, called Maisie in identical circumstances to yours.  Maisie was still warm when I checked on her, so she must have died only a while before.
I feel so sad for you, as I know how it is.
Trouble is, Maisie was my Granddaughters choice and i now have to tell her what has happened.
