Not in front of Kate
« on: January 31, 2009, 20:12 »
Really didn't want to mention this in front of Kate but one of our ducks has started laying, not sure which one, but we had 2 small eggs thursday and friday, and today got the most enourmous one, Pip is saving them avidly for the incy, (inspite of me saying we're not putting anything more in the incy till spring) roll on baby duckies, does anyone know how long we can wait before setting them? don't want to run the incy with only a couple of eggs in it, but at one a day it's going to take a week at least, and i don't want to set old eggs.

You should be fine waiting a week TMGs :D

They say about 10 days :)
Placed broad end upwards tilted slightly and move every day so the tilt is opposite, then the embryo doesn't stick to the side :)
Personally I leave mine on their side (as they would be in a nest)  and top to tail move 3 times a day - to be on the safe side lol

Congratulations!

I'm not a bitter eggless spinster at all (well only a little bit).
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

aww, Kate the eggless spinster! lol :)  your little duckies have been through the mill lately, soon you'll have all the eggies and we will have none, your lot are just late starters..............ours have been laying in an old kitchen cupboard, that's what you need to do, shift them back to the kitchen.....................

Well I'm keeping my fingers crossed for eggs soon as I want to get the incy up and running (the plan being an early hatch so the girls start laying before winter and keep going through it like last year ;)).
