If you cant see a chookie friendly vet then I would suggest you have nothing to lose by going to boots and seeing if you can buy that stuff that they were advertising for yellow toenails....

Beak, nails hair and feathers are all made of the same stuff..... Keratin.... what works on one would surely work on the other :)

Hope it helps and good luck

Thank you for that Pol.  It says to treat it with paraffin.  I'm going to take her to the vets in the morning and see what they say, I've got a feeling its not going to be good news.  I've only been keeping chickens a few months and I've had nothing but bad look with them.  Its enough to put you off.  I feel like I must be doing something wrong.

CC the thought had crossed my mind.  I don't know if I dare, I could cause more harm than good.

Don't let it put you off, you are doing what you can, this is my 2nd year in keeping chickens and last year one off my girls had a cut on her side that I found when I was putting the louse powder on her I took her to the vet and he had to operate on her she ended up having a 5" cut down her side and yes it was a enough to put me off but it didnt I now have 4 more. Keep going

Hello Beth,
We all have times when everything seems to go wrong with our hens.  I'm sure it's nothing you are doing.  Good Luck and hang in there  :)

sorry have been out all day, I would get her to a vet and get a fungal treatment - also get the vet to take a small sample and get it tested just to be sure what the problem is.

I think a vet that treats parrots and other exotic birds is your best bet.

(If you find one, encourage them to treat chickens routinely, I think the British Hen Welfare Trust help with advice and courses, although I can't see it on the website.  My vet was an avian vet and is now very busy having extended to chickens.)

First things first though, get your chicken sorted.  Good luck.
