Not too good. She was one her side and couldnt get up, she is still eating and drinking but I think I am thinking you are right and it could be Mareks. She is still in the bathroom :shock:  :shock: but may be off to the vet this week :cry:

Pepper deteriorated rapidly suddenly got very mucky underside and couldn't stand. I asked my neighbour to do the deed for me, cowardly I know but until I learn properly (and not with a pet chook) its either him or the vet :oops:  :roll:
Anyway, he took one look at her and said she had coccidiosis and that I should treat all my other chooks to a double dose of meds :shock:  :shock: I think he diagnosed based on her pooy bum, I think it could well have been Mareks because of the other symtoms (which he didnt know about). So is there anything I should do in the coop now apart from keep a watchful eye on all the others, which, so far, seem to be okay....touches wood :?

Thanks Sarah, I tell you now my new years resolution is to learn how to do the deed properly myself. Given the other thread on the same subject it has given me the kick up the a*** to do it. I hate to see anything suffer as you know but I equally hate having to ask someone else to do my dirty work :oops:  :oops: or go to the vet :roll:
Last night pepper  was walking happily round he bathroom stuffing her face so at least she wasnt suffering for long :cry:

Ohhh Im Sooooo Sorry but she had a fantastic life which is really good. Hopefully none of the other get it and it was just an unlucky one off .

I'm so sorry Jelly, it's just awful. I can completely understand your New Year's resolution and really recommend starting on a bird you have no emotional attachment to, think you are very sensible. It was hard enough starting on a drake I wasn't attached to, found it much harder when she was a "pet". Think you did the right thing getting someone else to do it and don't think you are a coward at all!

You did you best for her and she will ahve ahd a wonderful life with a short illness at the end. Think that is something to be proud of.

Oh jelly I'm so sorry. You did all you could and we all know how attached we get to our girls.

Hopefully she will be sharing some mealworms with duck now in heaven. I hope shes quick as duck liked mealworms.

So sorry. I would do the same asking someone else to do it, i really need to do these things too, i think i'm being brave just by reading what other say and do, but i couldn't even do that before.
