cellulose sponges - compostable?
« on: December 08, 2008, 12:38 »
Does anybody know whether the 100% cellulose which some sponge cloths are made of is natural plant cellulose (ie compostable) or some sort of 'artificial' material? also what they are dyed with? - they are quite bright colours.
I have even rung the customer careline (I do have a life - honestly  ) but they didn't know.
I would feel so much better about the amount I get through if I could just throw them all in the compost when they get gunky.

I thought that cellulose sponges were biodegradeable.  You could just bung one in the compost whole and see what happens to it.  If it rots down ok then there you are  :D  Mind you this weather not much is likely to happen so it'll be quite a wait.  Til then you could take them to the recyc place and see what they say.
