i have raised beds filled with a 50% topsoil 50% organic compost mix, i am planning on growing potatoes in one of the beds and wonder if i should dig in manure, or if the soil i have will provide enough nutrients already.

((if i should add manure, should it be rotted down? i can only get it fresh from a big pile at the stables. and also, should i add it now or later))

what do you think?

If its fresh you'd be best keeping it a year or two before using it on crops.  I think your spuds will be fine in compost and soil.

Potatoes definitely need old manure.  As crowndale suggests, you should manage this year on what you have but it won't be your best crop.

thanks, so if i were to manage to find some rotted down manure, would it be too late to add it now or is there still time to improve the potential crop?
