Ok so I know the've got to sort it out but...They picked on her all day yesterday and all day today.  All the chickens are having a go and now the Ducks are too...thats where the worry is...mind you they'd probably do it 'cause the chickens are??????  I'm waffling sorry.....any way they have now drawn blood and out of all the chickens she really is the smallest one.........do I leave them and hope that in a couple of days the pecking order has been established, or do I take her out.  I only went in the coop earlier and she jumped in my arms poor lamb.***************************  Whilst I'm on the subject she smells???? None of the others do???????Bl***y chickens   oh pictures of her

Im in no position to give advise but someone will be along soon who is.... but Id pull her out during the day time to give her a break, let her recover and adjust then try again.

She does look very sorry for herself, any other problems apart from the smell? Eating/ drinking / poohing all ok? No external parasites foamy / cloudy eyes or sneezing.

She isn't 100% and is feeling non too happy, she looks a little hunched, this maybe due to the bullying or she may have something else wrong with her. I know we all love our chickens but they really are nasty little * and they can detect weakness and respond to it.
I'd see how things go and only take her out as the last resort. I say this, because unless you can provide permanant accomodation for her, at sometime she's going to have to go back into the main bunch and you may find yourself back at square one.
Best of luck.

I didn't say *, I said buzzers !  Honest I did.

Hi Matilda Duck,  the bullying can be very distressing, if you can separate a small corner of the run and pop her in there during the day(a dog cage?) so that the others can see her but not harm her. She will gain confidence and relax a bit. Keep her in the main henhouse at night though.
The smell I would check out. Could be a sign of infection -maybe her crop is fermenting a bit (sour crop).  or a upper respiratory infection however, I am sure you would have noticed  Have a look at her crop first thing just to check that it is empty. A large squshy crop is indicative of sour crop.
Check her feathers could be simply she has just been pooped on as low down the pecking order so wont be roosting very high :?

Hi MD

When you say she smells, do you mean like all over?
Or is it in a certain area??

Have you got any purple spray you can put on her where they've drawn blood?

Sarah :)

As Foxy has said it could be a sign of sour crop.
It could be a sign of a infection such like mycoplasma, with that you might also notice a discharge from the nostrils, bubbles in the corner of the eye & sneezing it smells nasty around the nostril area.

The  smell could even be from the fact that she's been knocked down into the poop by the other chickens.

Thats it, give the girl nightmares.      Look on the bright side, she maybe looking a bit hunched from the bullying or she may have something as trivial as a little bit of a chill.

Fingers crossed for your girl, Matilda.  I'm worried too about our lowest one in the pecking order, Buffy.  I seem to be forever applying purple spray on her.  I was lucky, though cos it was Ginger who was the main bully and I took Ginger out for the day in the open run which has seemed to help things a little bit.  Hope things get better for Holly and it's just bullying that's making her feel not so good. Keeping everything crossed and sending get better thoughts.
