Emu was like that from the day we bought her home from the chicken place.  Didn´t notice anything until we put her and the other 4 hens in the run.  She doesn´t look any different at all when she is walking about the orchard, it´s only when she is mainly in the roosting house you see her go all odd.
The hen with the bad eye (who is on the mend, fingers crossed) was again in the partitioned off bit, she isn´t happy there, she wants out with the other hens..... so I put Emu in with her, Emu went and ate what was left of the catfood/grain.  Emu wasn´t bothered by Alana and ditto Emu.  Alana is back in the garage in a box now, and Emu in the hen house with the other birds.

We are in the Lot-et-Garonne Pamela so you may have gone past where we live en route. Lalinde is pretty and about 1 hour north of here. Please let me know next time and you can all in and have some lunch with us, meet all the mob
Weather still a bit grim but no rain for next few days and 18 degrees and sunny on Sunday. Gonna wash everything I can to get it dry outside

Hi jellyhead

I've found my article on Seahorse Syndrome - the main points are;

also known as cerebral hernia, crooked neck, seahorse syndrome.

Mostly affects crested breeds - Polands and Silkies.

No particular way of treating it - tends not to have a happy outcome.

Main authority on it is Sue Bowser - associated with Silkie Club of GB.

Story of one Silkie; reluctant to leave house, when lifted out later, was showing early signs of a slightly bent neck. Became worse fairly quickly, by the following day it was badly arched and twisted. When encouraged to stand the bird rolled over on to its back.

Sue Bowser suggested treatment with cortisone in jections and baytril (a chicken AB). In this case the bird recovered. However it is usually incurable and terminal.

Silkies and Polands have different sort of skull structure - have a 'vaulted skull'.

Sometimes wrongly diagnosed as Marek's. Some birds begin by wobbling their head until the head twists round, or is forced down between their legs.

One suggestion is a vitamin imbalance - possibly supplement with vitamins B and C.

Most common at around 4 months old.

Cause can be genetic or physical.

sounds like twisted neck syndrome...sorry.

affects as stated breeds such as polands, sultans, silkies, aracanas.

not a happy life, if it survives. usually strikes younger birds.

best to let her go
