Hi

We've recently moved house and finally got a bit of garden. So, I've decided to try my hand at a small vegetable garden.

I went to the garden centre and bought some Early Peas (Feltham First) and some Red Onion sets and planted them as it said on the packets.

The peas have sprouted and there are a couple of shoots from each of the onions. But here's where I get stuck a bit.

I know the onions will flower but when should I expect to see something and what should I do?

I have put some sticks down next to the peas and will tie them accordingly.

But there are quite a few fallen leaves around now and being at work throughout current daylight hours I struggle to clear the leaves during the week. Consequently I think some of the onion shoots have been broken.

Will the onions be okay and should I try and clear the leaves every day? How much damage will they cause to both the peas and onions?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm new to all this and just fancy a few home grown veggies.

Thanks in anticipation.

if anything the leaves will protect the peas and onions from frost and will rot down to provide goodness.  I doubt the leaves have broken an onion set shoot, they are pretty tough, i suspect the act of clearing leaves is causing that.  Leave em be.  They will be ready next July ish.
