solo garlic
« on: November 11, 2008, 14:02 »
My local street market sells small punnets of Chinese solo garlic, i.e. the bulbs are single and globular, about the size of a large onion set. They are brilliant for cooking purposes, but no UK seedsman seems to list them, and the only Google sites are those from the producers/exporters in China.

Some of the bulbs have begun to sprout since purchase, so I have just planted out a dozen in 3" pots to try them. Has anyone experimented with growing them already in the UK and/or is there any literature on the subject?

Never heard of them myself, but there's something like 300+ varieties of garlic worldwide. Nothing wrong with giving them a try in your garden but don't expect too mucn. The growing and light conditions are different to the UK so the results can't be the same.
