Does anyone know whether chickens will use a cat flap.  We need to make a new hen house and have a spare catflap and wondered whether the chickens would push it open. Anyone tried it?  I guess the size of the opening might be an issue. :?

Hi PP

I don't know if this is helpful to you or not :?
But I have a hen that goes through a cat flap , it's just there is no flap if you know what I mean:?
She's a medium sized bird and has no problems ( it took me a while to figure out how she was getting in the garage before me   )

Suppose if the flap was in & there were mealworms on the other side she'd soon figure out what to do - cheeky monkey our Mo

Sarah :)

Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

We had an idea we'd try cat flaps on chicken houses a few years ago, so we fitted a cat flap and waited till bedtime for the chickens, not one of the * would go through the flap...end of experiment.

Also, we did think that the flaps wouldn't be able to withstand a determined fox/badger attack as most have a flimsy plastic clip to lock them, which incidentally is located on the inside of the house when the flap is fitted so extra aggravation to lock the flap.

Mark.
