Has anyone got any ideas on how to stop dirt collecting in the bottom of the waterer?,think its coming off the chooks beaks when they drink because Ive lifted it of the ground by 6 inches and its still happening (thought it was when they have there vigorous dirt baths)

Nope if it's on the beaks then it's going to go in, I just flick it out in the evening when they go to bed

Yup. the water in mine is mucky every day! They had a drinker in their summer house, the ones from ebay that you attach a 2l bottle to that work off gravity. Now I've moved them for winter, to the other end of the lottie in a smaller house for winter, they have a bowl (an old csserole/pie dish thing) and it is ful of muck everyday.

TBH I think they prefer dirty water than fresh from the tap, they love it if I fill their bowl from the water butt or they get out to drink in muddy puddles.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, mucky water, is perfectly natural to animals.

Same here mine will source the water from the barrel we have or even an upside down planter that the water has collected in when it rains, or yes even the puddles.

Same thing happens here. The important thing is to give the drinker a quick clean, swill it out and refill every day, or as close as you get to that.
