I have grown Runner Beans for many years and each Autumn I dry off loads of seed beans ready for the next year. 3 years ago I found a pod of my beans had produced uniform dark blue, almost black, seed beans. I tried to grow these during the next season, thinking that they would revert to the normal distinctive mottled look.To my surprise the plants produced more of the dark blue beans, as they have done yet again this season.
Can you explain what has happened ?

Firstly welcome to the forums.

It would appear that simply they have crossed pollinated with another variety and that's what you're getting.

I've been saving seed from a purple climbing French bean for a few years, but last year I started to get green beans off some of the seed and I'm certain that this is what's happened there.
