Have I done a stupid thing?
« on: September 30, 2008, 12:42 »
We've just moved into a new house and we've got 3 young apple trees at the bottom of the garden. - 2 cox's orange pippins and 1 bramley. The bramley had some fruit on it which I've today picked as I wanted to spray the nettles in that part of the garden.
Once I'd picked the apples I looked on the label and it said that the fruit ripens in October.

I've never had much to do with picking apples apart from a bit of passing scrumping so I'm not sure whether they were ready or not.

Will they be ok and how do I know if they are ripe?

If an apple  is ready to pick it will separate reasonably easily from the tree when lifted gently skywards (and given a sharp twist and yank   )

And the pips will be brown.
Cheese makes everything better.
