Lettuce germination
« on: October 01, 2008, 14:16 »
I do well with my lettuce usually and this year has been no exception, but thought I would try some little gem lettuce as it said on the packet and put into bed wher wanted lettuce to grow.  Not one came up.  Usually I start off the lettuce indoors and transplant, so I will carry on doing it that way in the future.  Don't know why putting the seed straight in the bed didn't work maybe temperatures.

Just need to persaude the old man now to make me a small cold frame to see how lettuce in tubs do in that.  If I start making it myself, with any luck, he will say what are you doing give us it 'ere, you won't do it like that.........................works most times.

Have you tried putting the seed in the fridge overnight then sowing? I always keep all my lettuce seeds in there. Might just trick them.

Good idea Aidy, lettuce seeds don't like it to warm they won't germinate

Well worth a try, but no bother to start them off indoors.  I suspect the seed may have been old and badly kept anyway..... just remembered that.
