I toyed with the idea but then didn't  :D   I think it's good for you to eat, first class protein an all that. I think it would be fine in soups and stews, bet the hens would like it too

It's very healthy apparently and runners in training eat it

I don't know about growing it but it tastes nice, I've used it instead of rice occasionally.

I don't bother growing it because I can buy organic white and red quite cheaply here so it just isn't worth the bother.
I wouldn't give it to the birds as I prefer it myself. Mostly I cook it in chicken broth and freeze servings so it's ready when I'm hungry. Very filling and nutritious.

Found some seed here

http://www.realseeds.co.uk/grains.html

Are there any other companies offering them ?

Sound easy enough to grow and we have it now and then. Good source of protein and vits. Or for the hens if it ain't so good.

I found them easy to grow. Rather a dry and cool season crop, seedlings will need a reasonable amount of water to establish well and there are varieties to suit your place.

Seedlings look like fat hen and plants grow like that. As said, very nutritious.
