Yesterday he tipped out a tub of Robinta potatoes,  It was a slightly small tub than the pink fir apple one, and he had planted 4 in it, and he has managed about 8/9 kgs.
He has asked me to ask you what he should plant for a nice early crop next spring (we like them just boiled), and can he re-use some of the same soil compost.
He is now top of my list of favourite husbands       Mrs Bouquet

I like Epicure as a first early. I wouldn't re-use the compost though. I would add the old stuff to your compost bin or use it as a mulch somewhere else and use new compost for your potatoes.

Noo, you will get silly spuds.

You have a lucky husband.. my potatoes to date don't do anything. How does he manage it? Any special tips?

Hi, Well of couse he's lucky he's got me
But seriously, he started of by just covering the spud, and just earthing up any new growth as soon as it appeared.  He checked them evry night when he came home and watered them.  Half way though their development he gave them a feed of chicken pellets.
We thought that they had no pests because they were not in the ground and that as they were not many in one place it reduced the disease factor, but thats only surmise.  Also could it be that they were nice and warm because of the plastic tubs ?
Apart from that it must be beginners luck      Mrs Bouquet
