Informal hedge
« on: October 05, 2008, 12:58 »
Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help.

We've just planted an informal hedge - a mixture of laurels, lilac, jacintha, cotoneaster, red robin, japanese quince etc.
I am getting confused as to whether we should prune the hedge immediately, or wait until next spring and prune after spring flowering.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou.

HI,
I would let it establish for a while before any pruning. It won't hurt to let it settle in before cutting bits of it!

3 yrs and prune back to form the shape  ,just take 50% off those bits that are outside the line you want to follow with the hedge .leave the top growing points  until you have the desired hieght :)
still alive /............
