Turnips still bolting in this cool damp weather?
« on: September 10, 2008, 21:02 »
This year I tried to grow turnips (Purple Top Milan) for the first time ever - on sandy soil, in half-shade.

I wasn't surprised when a few of them were bolting back in July when it was warm sunny and dry, but now?   We have only had one sunny day here in the last four weeks, and the rest have been cloudy or wet.  Despite this, my best, fattest turnips are bolting (producing the flower spike)!

Any advice about growing turnips welcome...

Yes, I've been eating the greens.  I waste nothing.
