Hi everyone, one of chickens has been staying in the nest box for most of the day...this is the second day i've noticed it....she has been laying ok and always laid good hard eggs.
Can anyone help.....do they just do this from time to time? i'm assuming she isn't feeling too good?? I'm a first time keeper so just wanting to share and perhaps there might be a normal reason for this except being ill

Could be a lot of things......egg-bound perhaps? Take her out of the box and check out her abdomen....have a gentle feel see if there is an egg in there. Check her out all over. Does she have a smelly breath? Any odd looking poos lately? Has she been eating and drinking?

Could she be broody? Doesn't seem like the right time of year.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

She could be broody??....My grumpiest hen went broody last week . They usually growl or peevishly squawk at you as you go near or go to touch her. Mine is grumpy all the time, but is even worse when broody, she practically screams at you if you dare to just walk past!!! If you turf her off does she go back in rather quickly? Have you felt her underneath? They are usually very hot to touch.

i have noticed today that one of my tame girls has suddenly gone very very quiet and she doesnt seem to want to eat although it looks like she is drinking ok.

when i got to  the run she was sitting rite by the door in the corner an would not move then she walked away when i put her close to the others , i am wandering if she is getting broody. or could it be that she may of ate soemthing that disagreed with her  they have had potatoe peelings carrots and cabbage must of this was all boiled an then lefft to cool, but i am also weaning them onto layers pellets .
