Well where to begin.........

The Good :D

Not been to the lotty in about 3-4 days, we popped down knowing that the runners would need harvesting, amazingly we came away with this impressive haul!!

The Cucumbers were really tasty and we have at least 20 more in various stages of growth.

The red cabbage was similarly impressive, and tasted so good that i ate a handful raw while cooking dinner.

The great thing is we have about 7-8 lettuce and 20 cucumbers to come, we managed to save around 10 tomatoes form the blight which are ripening now, and we have lots of lovely rocket.

We picked a couple of our swedes too and boy do they smell good!!! we have another 20 or so of them coming. Our Parsnips leeks and carrots are coming along nicely too although the ground is so stoney they are all very deformed.

The Bad :(

We had a look at our white cabbage and it has been massacred, i'm guessing there is no coming back from this??

We picked the caterpillers off but with no leaves left i doubt we're going to get any cabbage.

Also our calabrese is dire, we got a head the size of a 2p before it bolted, so nothign form them either!!

The Really Bad

We were lucky to get the plot of land in March this year at the end of someones garden, today however they told us that they are having to move...... we should get a month or so before they go so will see out the cucumbers, runners, celery, lettuce and corn, and we can always pull the carrots, parsnips, leeks and swede early.
But it means we can't prepare for next year as now we won't have any space to grow next season. We have no garden and our flat has nowhere we can plant growbags outside. So untill we move and get a garden we will be duckingout of the growing game

So if anyone near WGC (Potters Bar, Hatfiled, Welwyn or St Albans) has a plot they want to share let me know!!

You are doing very well! :D  Net your Brassica plants next season, I don't think those would make a speedy recovery now.

You could put a request/offer on your local notice boards, there might some elderly/unwell/too busy who would be happy for you to grow something in their garden and keep it tidy for them. Good luck!

I think you've done really well, despite your few losses. Overall your successes far outweigh the failures.
As gobs said, pop a notice in the post office, newsagents etc offering to tend an unkempt garden and supply free veg in return to the occupant?
I knew a man who did this - sadly dead now, but for over 15 years it was a very happy and successful arrangement. He got to sow and grow, and they all enjoyed the harvests.
It would tide you over until an allotment is available, and I suspect many elderly people would enjoy a)the garden being tended for free b)fresh vegetables at no cost and c) the company.
Well worth a try, and good luck
