Pumpkin - snapped off, will it ripen ? Advice
« on: August 29, 2008, 21:51 »
My partner was doing me a favour by putting heavy flag stones under my pumpkins (as I read it stopped  them rotting or being eaten by slugs etc) However he was a bit heavy handed with one and it came off .
Its a good size pumpkin ( about the size of a football) and a shame to waste................
My question is , will it be any good as it is now for either eating or saving for Halloween?
Thanks in advance

Just depends what stage it is at...any chickens?

The stalk of the fruit is commonly cracked when they are ready and the skin is hard and tough. 8)

I'd keep it and see, nothing to loose.

he'd no need for a heavy slab, an upturned dinner plate or plant tray would suffice  :D  Do it yourself next time  :D

You could leave the pumpkin in the sun to help it along but bring it in if it rains and keep it somewhere cool and airy.  Good luck  :D

Cheers
I might well do it myself next time, although i did have the clever thought of resting them on plant pots only to find that one started growing inside the pot. Having broke it of I now have a 'hunchbacked' pumpkin.
Its my first time growing pumpkins (sucessfully) and am enjoying seeing them grow day by day.
Thanks
