They look brilliant - I'm jealous.
I planted loads and only got 3 average size ones which I have eaten already! They were loooooovely!
Will try harder next year.  :)

My first year growing onions, garlic and shallots.
The onions and shallots are brilliant, must be beginers luck. Will post some pics of them soon

There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

vegmandan - those garlic look fantastic, will you share the origin?
There seem to be so many to choose from from all suppliers, which did you use.

These were some I had left over from last years crop which were in fact originally Wilko's Garlic at an amazing price of just £1.49 for 3 whole bulbs.

Dont know what variety they are but they're a purple type which seem to suit our weather.

They are only available from about March onwards but they've always done brilliantly for me planted late March. :D

I've never had any success planting in Autumn as it just seems to sit in cold wet ground all winter and suffers as a result.

Mine always do well in fall planting because either I put it in a sloping area (rain runoff) or in raised beds (runoff again). If you prefer not to do raised beds, then first put in a handful of sand, set the clove on that, and mound the dirt on top so that water will move away from the clove spot. Good drainage is critical to garlic, along with rich soil. People forget that they're heavy feeders to get those big cloves.  8)

Down here in Surrey garlic overwinters well and I got a good crop, but yours are beauts! I'd love to know the variety, too. Cheers!
