Hi, I have used chicken pellets this year, need to trial it with something like growmore  but so far not seaweed. I understand Guersey early potatoes were originaly grown with seaweed and thats what gave them their taste. Dont know if they stopped useing it  because  they dont taste like they use to or pehaps its my taste bud declining  :(

hi,
get down to the seashore somewhere after a big gale and there it is sitting there for you ,and its all free !! its easy to handle , clean and a fair bit of bulk as well , i put it straight into the potato drills cover it with some soil and wait a week or so before planting the seed potato , it melts into the ground fast and leaves no smells , all my spuds this year were lovely .

Some areas have strict rules against the harvesting of marine algae or certain species with large fines as penalties, so be aware of where you collect and what you collect. In addition it is not wise to collect a rare specimen or a long-lived perrenial unless they have washed up on the beach.

hi christine,
im lucky i dont live over your way , there is a beach on my way to our allotment that has tons of the stuff lying there all washed up , all the local gardeners collect from there and its another branch of the allotment chat club !and its fully organic alternative , i dont think i will be using cow or horse manure after reading the damage it can do to crops . you may find some rare species of seaweed in the pile but its all going to use.

Can't see the original post but gather it's about sea weed.

I live on an island and my house is 33ft from high water so sea weed is an easily getable and free resource for me, even some of the smaller farmers still use it up here.

Do be aware that when it dries it shrinks so the ton of wet sea weed you spent hours bagging up and carrying home in your car will probably end up as a small bag of dried stuff that you can easily pick up, good idea if you can use a JCB.
