Sugar beet pellets is a horse feed that is soaked in water, which then swells to double its size and is then like a wet mulch. Has anybody used these as a mulch/feed before. I am thinking of trying it as an alternative to manure to get rid of problems with farm manure.

Used sugar beet pellets to feed sheep but not plants! Would have thought that it would be an expensive way of doing it (not that I know how much they cost). I do know that there are a couple of people who have offered free horse muck that they are confident is not contaminated. Roughlee Handled is in Lancashire so hopefully not that far from you and even with the petrol costs likely to be cheaper.

We use sugar beet for our ponies.  

Not sure I'd use it as a mulch for two reasons.  One, it goes mouldy if left too long after soaking and two, rats LOVE IT so you might end up being the gourmet restaurant for the local rat population!
