Double Yolk!
« on: August 23, 2008, 12:26 »
Hello Folks!

Just have to find someone who would be the slightest bit intersted to tell my news to!

One of my girls laid a larger than normal egg the other day, and when i came to eat it last night, it turns out to be a double yolk'er!!!

Anyone know of any old wives tales about these?  Are they good luck or bad luck?  I've eaten it anyhow so it had better be good luck LOL

Wonder if I will have more or is it just a 1 off?
Claire. x

I think when your hen lays a double yolker it uses up the next days yolk, so you wont get an egg today, if you see what I mean :?

From what I've read on here chickens are like us ladies only get given a set number of eggs for life, so if you get two in one day then you have to do with out the next :D

Good luck as they are gorgeous to eat. Bad luck as they don't hatch (but a bit late for that anyway if you've cracked it open  )
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

She laid it on Thursday, I've not missed any yet.  2 Hens-2 eggs-everyday.  Bless 'em.

I have read somewhere the bit about them being like us, they are born with the eggs etc.  It's all quite interesting.

So no old wives tales then?

We've had many a double yolker followed by a full house the next day.

It does take one off the list for the future but it doesn't seem to put them off their stride. They're troopers !  :D

Dora, one off my rhode island red hybrids layed her first egg today, now she is the smallest off my four birds.  Just had lunch and her first egg was a double yolker, couldn't believe it.  How clever our girls are.
