Just had a read and you might be right, I have two red cedar trees near that apple tree, so this is the cause, i need to cut the red cedar trees down?

I have planted 4 apple trees this year and would sooner lose the red cedar trees if I had to choose.

I think it's apple scab not rust. Scab is very common.

If you have the same blotches appearing on your apples it is apple scab for sure.  You can see what to do about it at http://www.ashridgetrees.co.uk/Apple-Scab - the instructions work - youjust have to be patient. I also heard someone saying you can use a copper based fungicide which is safe as long as you wash it off, but I have not tried...

Good luck
