hi,
  i picked up a Atlas 5hp rotovator at an auction recently anyone know how old it is ? as i cant find any imformation on it

when you say an atlas rotavator .there are many types not usually called rotavators but tillers .
they started to import machines for agricultural use  from the states in the last part of the war so it could be this type if its of an antique description . for an upto date dating you should submit the engine number and chassis number to the company shown on the decals if present.you try contacting MTD for help they may be able to assist you,
 if you have a picture would be helpful
also they were taken over by MTD garden tractors and lawn mowers trading under lawnflite if this is the same company as your machine check for any other decals on the machine also the engine number should carry a series of letters .
mtd still operate with small rotavators even today . atlas also had a second part to the name atlas which escapes me at the minute .
atlas have a heavy industrial company still going in the usa

hi i will get a pic of it to day , sometimes i need to pour a small bit of petrol into the carb and that gets it going , would it need to have oil changed or do you just add more if required ?

cant see the piccy but ALL engines should have regular oil changes annuall or to manufacturers specs
